Teaching Philosophy.

As a future educator, I feel recognize that I have a responsibility to design a safe and educational environment where learners can reach their full potentials. In order to achieve this, I think that a foundation of classroom respect is critical, where students always feel heard and appreciated, so that they can work cohesively and cooperatively with their peers. The preceding requires strong emotional literacy and self-awareness skills, which I would work to foster by establishing and modelling a normalcy of feeling and need communication.

The sharing of ideas, risk taking, and metacogntive strategies are also among my values – I believe in the importance of teaching and instilling in students the ability to question and critically examine what they think about something, and why they might think it. Fundamentally, I trust that when we, as individuals, are given such opportunities for exploration and reflection, genuine, authentic learning can occur, shaping passionate and thoughtful citizens.

I would like to address that being in the early years of teacher education, I am still in the process of determining my teaching philosophy; the preceding are only a few of the principles that have stood out to me so far. In fact, I acknowledge and accept that this will likely by a lifelong journey, and am both excited and grateful to begin.

Rationale; Why do I teach?

From a young age, I have had a passion for creativity, as well as a curious mind, motivating me to explore and learn from others and my surroundings. I am excited by the value that the teaching profession places on consistent growth through education, and am hoping to instill a similar drive in my future students.

In addition, I am aware and recognize the strong impact that a teacher and school experience as a whole can have on a child’s life, and want to make this as positive as possible. I understand the current curriculum of British Colombia to be directed by the goal of producing responsible and considerate citizens, something that I would find incredibly meaningful to be a part of, and will strive to achieve in order to prepare them for life outside of the classroom.

A quote that inspires and motivates me.
